OurStage’s Stanley Ross rocks PLUG Chicago!!
Wednesday, February 27th, 2008Holy Fuck! … and A Place to Bury Strangers … and OurStage.com band Stanley Ross performed an amazing (and sold out) show at Schubas in downtown Chicago. Probably one of the coolest venues I’ve been in in a long time. It’s part pub, part comedy club, and part rock venue all mashed into this one place. The people who worked there were super cool and EVERY person in the each of the bands was chill and fun to talk to (not always the case). The guys from Stanley Ross were funny, cool and (most importantly) performed a kick ass set. Basically these guys just love music… They love to play music, they love to listen to music and they love to talk about music and that very simple passion just shines through in their performance. Also, I’m pretty sure I have a huge crush on Graham and Brian from Holy Fuck … and possibly Jono from APTBS … color me groupie … also … I’m pretty sure I took every possible opportunity to make a stupid joke about the name Holy Fuck … *sigh* you can take the girl out of 5th grade but you can’t take the 5th grade outta the girl.

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007Not only am I in love with the entire PG crew but I am in love with their album. When I first heard “Just Impolite” on OurStage I was in the middle of a big Postal Service phase and I immeadiatly fell in love with them. I was super excited to meet these guys at CMJ and they fulfilled all m expectations. They were cool, funny and down to earth AND the put on a kick ass show. I have to admit I was worried that since Dan created most of this stuff on his own and it has such a heavy electronic sound that it might not translate too well on stage. HOWEVER, it is obvious that he picked the right group of guys for this band because they added an energy and vibe to this music that I could never have imagined. Truly and honestly these guys are one of my favorite OurStage bands to date! (And I’m not lying when I say that their ENTIRE EP is good - start to finish - and it’s addictive as hell). I would be VERY surprised if these guys don’t break out soon.

DC Shorts is quickly becoming known for being the best film festival for emerging directors to screen their shorts. Not only does this festival host a well balanced myriad of films - but they treat their directors well (and a little kindness goes a long way). Check out what some of the directors (including festival director John Gann) had to say.

Friday, August 31st, 2007Man … this was a LONG day … but how many people can leave work and say they got to meet and talk to: Theo Epstein, Peter Gammons, Kay Hanley, John Legend, Mike O’Malley, Wyc Grousbeck & Bill Janovitz of Buffalo Tom … in one day. The Red Sox Foundation is my favorite charity of all time and the events they put together are incredible.
