Exclusive Interview: Quinn Strassel interviews Ketchup Mania at SXSW

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

I got a chance to interview Japanese punk-pop band Ketchup Mania a few minutes ago at Studio SX here at South By Southwest. They were a lot of fun and incredibly gracious. Dai (guitar) expounded on his favorite American beers and Hiro (lead vocals) talked about their unique sense of fashion inspired by the Harajuku district in Tokyo.

Dai, Me, and Hiro speak the universal language of rock!

(Note: Big thanks to Dave and George of JapanFiles who provided translation and helpful band info).

OurStage @ DC Shorts

Monday, October 15th, 2007

DC Shorts is quickly becoming known for being the best film festival for emerging directors to screen their shorts. Not only does this festival host a well balanced myriad of films - but they treat their directors well (and a little kindness goes a long way). Check out what some of the directors (including festival director John Gann) had to say.

Interview w/ Amanda Kaltesky

This girl is the real deal ladies and gents. Not only is she cool as hell, but she’s super talented (she plays piano and guitar and has a voice that will blow you away). Check out here song Never Enough and I guarantee you you’ll be rockin out (or mellowing out) to this little coffee house diva in no time!

Broadcast Live @ The OurStage Winners Circle Showcase

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

Broadcast Live took the stage at the Paradise and pulled together a powerful, cohesive and well blended sound. Their message is heavily political and, at times, jarring. Even if you don’t ascribe to the same set of political beliefs, you have to respect them for the way they are speaking out. There is nothing more beautiful when you can tell a musician is speaking from their own heart and TRULY believes in what they are singing about. You couldn’t get a more genuine vibe from a band if you tried. Every member of the group was open, kind and cool as hell … and it shines through in their music. I looove their song 50 million … just type in Broadcast Live on the OurStage search bar and check it out.
