It Takes Two: Zircon and Jillian Goldin

Monday, March 31st, 2008

**Special Note: In honor of the last day of Finals Week, we (Alyssa, Julie, and Quinn) are profiling the artists who made it to the number one spot in their respective channels.

With $5,000 on the line, I’m sure most artists in the Music Finals channel would love to add another song to double their chances of winning the big prize.

As it turns out, Jillian Goldin is one step ahead of the pack.

With her own hypnotic track, “Hajime,” topping the World channel, Jillian is in the running for the music Grand Prize.

But if you look closely, you’ll realize that Jillian appears twice in this month’s list of number ones. Head over to the Techno/Club/Dance channel and you’ll find another trance-like track, “Breathing You In,” with electronica artist and frequent collaborator Zircon (real name: Andrew Aversa).

But unlike “Hajime” which maintains a sense of calm throughout, “Breathing You In” drifts into a breakbeat barrage, giving it an entirely different feel.

Congrats to both of you for your combined success. But I only have one question: How do you split the money if “Breathing You In” wins?

As for the fans, why don’t you head over to Jillian’s and Andrew’s profiles. Join their fanclubs, and if you like what you hear, judge them to the top!

Harvey’s song So Desperate, We’re Dead is one of those songs you like immediately. There’s no desperation here folks, this is SOLID indie rock! It’s the kind of song that makes you want to run just a little bit farther, drive just a little to fast and sing just a little bit too loud. (This one is getting added to my gym mix as we speak). So Desperate has all the ingredients of a Indie Pop hit - the vocals are tight, singable and inspiring and the band is on point! The drums in this piece would make Travis Barker proud! Ladies and gentlemen - I’m keeping an eye on Harvey because I’m pretty sure in the near future they’re gonna be giving Fall Out Boy, Simple Plan and My Chemical Romance a run for their money!

If you like what you hear and you want to support these Illinois born rockers in their quest for $5000 go to OurStage.com/judge and get to work!!!

Can Chesney Snow make it rain?

Musician, Artist, Actor and (most importantly) genuine human being - Chesney Snow’s song Dragonfly brings an intelligent and multi layered vibe that I haven’t seen on the experimental channel in a long time. Snow’s seductive voice glides over the synthesized track while the African inspired beats and chanting pull this tune into a realm all it’s own. His ability to infuse sounds from all corners of the globe into such a sexy, mellow grove is really quite remarkable. Gentlemen … this is a song to seduce your ladies to!!

If you want to help Chesney Snow win the $5000 grand prize go to OurStage.com/judge and show your support!

Going for the Dough!

Monday, March 31st, 2008

**Special Note: In honor of the last day of Finals Week, we (Alyssa, Julie, and Quinn) are profiling the artists who made it to the number one spot in their respective channels.

Did you know that, “2 out of 3 Americans suffer from a mental or chemical addiction to donuts?” Neither did I…until the #1 video on OurStage’s Wacky & Weird channel came along. The film is aptly titled Dying for a Donut: Part 1 and is directed by the wickedly talented Adam Cushman. This eye-opening film humorously tells the story of two peculiar donut junkies and their sugar highs and lows.

See it for yourself first hand and find out why many OurStage fans have become addicted to this film.

Fantasy is Easy … but what about winning $5,000 on OurStage?

The Honors are boys after my own heart! Their tune ‘Fantasy is Easy‘ is at the #1 spot on the Newport Folk Festival channel as I type. Now I, personally, got about 2 hours of sleep last night and it’s been a super stressful day at OurStage (I mean it’s the last day of finals week … so it’s to be expected). But I’m listening to the track as I type to capture the feeling in my post … and, I’m not even kidding, this song is actually de-stressing me!

Fantasy is Easy has got a mellow, folky vibe that makes you want to get your friends together in a park for a lazy game of frisbee or wiffle ball … or maybe just watch other people play … regardless of the activity there’s definitely lemonade involved… and people are laughing… and it’s sunny. The harmonica interlude is a nice touch too! There’s no doubt that The Honors bring some serious musical competition to the game right now. You can listen to them here in my blog but if you want to help them win the $5000 grand price go to OurStage.com/judge and show your support.
